Rules and skills

Put a file called QUOX.md in your project and Quox sends it with each turn as your rules. Use it for standing instructions: how your team names things, what to avoid, which environment is which.

Quox looks in two places:

  1. QUOX.md in the current directory and its parents, up to the git root.
  2. ~/.quox/QUOX.md, for rules that apply everywhere.

World-writable files, and symlinks that lead outside your home or repository, are ignored.

Terminal window
/rules # show the rules in effect, reason first
/rules 2 # page 2 of a long rules view
/rules off # stop using them for this session
/rules on # use them again

Rules are capped at 5500 characters in total. If your files are longer, Quox cuts the rest and adds a visible note saying how much was kept, so you are never left guessing what was dropped.

Rules guide the agent. They do not grant permission. Risky actions still go through approval.

Skills are your organisation’s governed, reusable procedures: steps an agent follows. They are not Crystals, which are deterministic replays kept in a separate store.

Terminal window
/skills # list your organisation's skills, with edition and description
/skills <name> # show one skill in detail
/skill <name> # ask Quox to run one

/skill runs nothing by itself. It sends “Run the skill with: ” as a normal turn, so CommanderQ runs it through the usual governed path. If the skill needs a human, you see the approval card.
